BNY Mellon is pleased to share with you their ninth annual Global Trends in Investor Relations based on a survey conducted in late 2013. This extensive analysis is based on insight from nearly 700 participants representing companies from 63 countries, covering key emerging trends in today's capital markets. Among the key findings globally are:
• The issue having the most impact on global market confidence is seen as systemic market risk, which has surged over last year's top issue, Eurozone stability.
• The number one priority for IR teams in 2014 is to focus on current investors with the second most important goal for the year ahead being international shareholder base diversification.
• The prominence of Corporate Governance is evident, with the vast majority of companies having communicated with investors on such matters in the past 12 months. Notably, companies from Emerging Markets reported that this is one of the primary factors influencing investor demand for their companies.
• Furthermore, the opinion of companies regarding investor interaction with the board of directors is positive, with 72% of companies believing there is tangible value in direct board and investor dialogue.
